Development of Compact Fluorescent Lamps
Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL's) are the light bulbs we would generally associate with energy efficiency and are the most common energy saving light bulbs installed by electricians. They come in an array of different shapes and sizes and Compact Fluorescent Lamps provide a different light spectrum to incandescent lamps. The improved subjective colour of the light emitted by Compact Fluorescent Lamps is a key feature, which your local electrician will explain. Compact Fluorescent Lamps have the potential to reduce our consumption, so there has been widespread encouragement for the adoption of CFL’s and energy efficient lighting in general. There has been a lot of publicity around the subject to encourage awareness, while utility companies, electricians and local governments have incentive schemes in place to subsidise CF’Ls. The lamps have been provided for free to customers to reduce electricity demand and therefore reducing any investment in generating more electricity. Mr Electric electricians will provide more information for customers to consider and the detail behind the product benefits. The Driving Force - Incandescent Light Bulb Ban
The incandescent light bulbs that many of us have installed in our homes are in the process of being banned. The first stage of the ban was on 1st September 2009 and there are additions to the ban scheduled for 2010. National and international targets for energy efficiency are driving the requirements for an effective ban on the current incandescent light bulbs. Mr Electric will discuss how this ban will affect you, our customer and the options will be provided by one of our qualified electricians. Compact Fluorescent Benefits
Compact Fluorescent Lamps use between 20 to 33% of the power that equivalent incandescent lamps use. Your Mr Electric electrician will explain that lighting accounts for approximately 9% of electricity usage in households. If the use of Compact Fluorescent Lamp was widespread it could save 7% of the total household usage. Our electricians will explain to you that if any buildings incandescent lamps were replaced by compact fluorescent lamps, the heat that is subsequently produced due to lighting will be reduced. When both heating and lighting are required in the building, the heating system will make up the heat. When the building requires lighting and cooling, Compact Fluorescent Lamps can be installed by an electrician to reduce the load on the cooling system, which results in two simultaneous savings in electrical usage. Compact Fluorescent Lamps are very cost-effective in commercial premises when as a replacement for incandescent lamps. Not only are there annual savings to be made, there are also less heating and ventilation costs and reduced labour requirements for lamp changes. The Mr Electric electrician will clarify these points with you. Compact Fluorescent Lamps turn on within a second, but full brightness can sometimes take time. Some Compact Fluorescent Lamp that are installed by an electrician will instantly turn on and have no warm up period. To ensure that you have the right Compact Fluorescent Lamp installed in your premises our electricians will assess the existing light fixtures and offer a solution to fit the electrical installation. Dimmable CFLs are available and there are a variety of solutions for customers to consider closely with one of our electricians. Compact Fluorescent Lamps Lifespan
Our electricians will confirm that a CFL can last 8-15 times longer than that of incandescent light bulbs. The compact fluorescent lamp lifespan is anything from 6000 to 15000 hours and incandescent light bulbs last for between 750-1000 hours. However, there are a number of factors that affect the lifetime of any lamp and these details will be explained to you by the Mr Electric electrician. Operating voltage, exposure to voltage spikes, mechanical shock, manufacturing defects, frequency of cycling, lamp positioning, ambient operating temperatures and other related factors all affect efficiency. The compact fluorescent lamp life can be significantly less efficient if only turned on for a short period such as a few minutes. In this instance the compact fluorescent lamplife can be similar to that of an incandescent light bulb. The solution is for fluorescent lamps to be left on when leaving a room for a 15 minute period. Mr Electric can assist you in the installation of compact fluorescent lamps by one of our certified and fully qualified electricians.
