DON'T COMPROMISE WITH PERSONAL SAFETY, CALL A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIANGENERAL PUBLIC ARE CON’FUSED’ OVER KETTLES ! As a nation Britain gets through a staggering 48 billion cups of tea every year, making the kettle a vital part of our everyday routine. But, as a recent survey has found, 46 per cent of people wouldn’t know what to do if their kettle blew a fuse. The survey, which was carried out on behalf of Mr. Electric, one of the UK’s leading local electrician contracting firms, found that 46 per cent of people interviewed did not know that a 13 amp fuse would be needed in a normal 2,500 watt electric kettle - with London and the South coming out as the least electrically minded. |

Clive Houlston, managing director of Mr. Electric UK, says: “The findings of the survey are worrying, particularly within the 18 to 24 year olds, where only 25 per cent answered correctly. This maybe due to the lack of time, rather than ability because as we are moving away from the DIY culture that we have experienced over the last ten years. Young people now don't want to spend time repairing household goods; they're too busy to carry out these tasks.” Houlston continues: “I have been working as part of the electrical industry for over 30 years and it is frightening to think that there are people starting out on the property ladder without knowing the basics of electricity and electrical repair.” With over 50 franchisees in the UK, Mr. Electric is the market leader in local electrician services and is rolling out a ‘safety in the home’ campaign at schools around the country throughout the spring, which will help to educate and inform young people of the dangers of electricity. |
