EV Electric Car Charger News
Electric car charge points could be installed in all future Birmingham and UK homes in world first
For anyone still in doubt about the inevitability of the electric vehicle revolution, this latest news from the Government makes it very hard to deny the direction of travel.
A new consultation has just been launched which proposes that all new-build homes are fitted with an electric car charge point.
This would make England the first country to introduce mandatory chargers in new homes as it aims to become a world leader in the race to zero emissions.
The consultation is part of a package of measures designed to improve the experience of owning, driving and charging an electric vehicle.
The aim is that all new homes built with a dedicated parking space come with electric vehicle charge points, as electric vehicles become a more common feature of everyday life.
If the plans are successful, this legislation would be a world first, complementing a range of measures and investments designed to promote the shift to electric.
These include funding for smart chargers for the home, £37million to improve electric vehicle charge point infrastructure and plans for all newly installed rapid and higher powered charge points to provide debit or credit card payment facilities by spring next year.
Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “With record levels of ultra-low emission vehicles on our roads, it is clear there is an appetite for cleaner, greener transport.
“Home charging provides the most convenient and low-cost option for consumers – you can simply plug your car in to charge overnight as you would a mobile phone.
“The government has already taken steps to ensure that existing homes are electric vehicle ready by providing up to £500 off the costs of installing a charge point at home.”
Smart charging means an electric vehicle would charge at different times of the day to encourage off-peak charging rates.
Funded electric vehicle charge points from Mr Electric The Car Charging Company
As government-approved installers of electric vehicle charge points and a preferred installer to many manufacturers in the Birmingham area, The Mr Electric Car Charging Company can apply for grants on behalf of customers looking to take advantage of electric vehicle charge point funding while it’s available.
