In February 2021, the\u00a0Government\u00a0announced\u00a0<\/a>that\u00a0electric vehicle\u00a0drivers across the country are set to benefit from up to \u00a350 million to install electric vehicle\u00a0charge-points, as we continue to work towards net zero by 2050.<\/p>\n

The move will see small businesses such as B&Bs gain access to the Workplace Charging Scheme\u00a0(WCS),\u00a0supporting the UK tourism industry and improving\u00a0charging\u00a0access\u00a0in\u00a0rural areas.<\/p>\n

It will also see more support, via the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme\u00a0(EVHS),\u00a0for\u00a0people in\u00a0flats\u00a0and rented accommodation, so that they too can\u00a0enjoy the benefits of\u00a0electric vehicles.<\/p>\n

This will\u00a0encourage\u00a0people to make the switch in areas where charging provision is currently more limited and potentially more challenging to secure.<\/p>\n

On\u00a0World\u00a0EV Day<\/a>, the Government announced more details on the eligibility criteria for this new funding and please contact Mr. Electric for further details.<\/p>\n

These exciting developments and the changes to the WCS and EVHS will be delivered by a new digital platform\u00a0for OZEV\u00a0chargepoint\u00a0grants\u00a0which is currently in development. The\u00a0intention is that\u00a0this platform will be ready early next year alongside the launch of the new services,\u00a0so that people can benefit from the changes to\u00a0the\u00a0WCS and EVHS as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

OZEV authorised installers, which Mr. Electric<\/a> are\u00a0<\/em>will\u00a0not\u00a0need to apply to be registered\u00a0again, although Installers\u00a0may be\u00a0asked\u00a0to opt into the reformed schemes, confirming\u00a0their\u00a0competence to carry out installations under new criteria.<\/p>\n

Chargepoint\u00a0manufacturers<\/em>\u00a0will\u00a0not need to reapply for\u00a0OZEV approval of\u00a0their\u00a0chargepoints\u00a0\u2013\u00a0existing approvals\u00a0will carry over to the\u00a0reformed\u00a0schemes. Even if there is equipment that is not approved, they will welcome new applications, especially if they are suitable for use in a residential carpark.<\/p>\n

Vehicle manufacturers\u00a0<\/em>will\u00a0be pleased to hear\u00a0that\u00a0vehicle\u00a0eligibility will carry over to the\u00a0reformed\u00a0schemes.<\/p>\n
