Security & Safety
Let Us Protect Your Business
Whether you’re moving into a new commercial premises or wish to improve the security of your current office or warehouse, Mr. Electric can provide the advice and technical support you need to keep your business safe. Our expert electricians will happily advise you on the best solutions and tailor them according to your company’s budget, whether it’s emergency lighting, outdoor security lights or electrical safety equipment.
Our specially trained engineers carry out emergency lighting tests as part of their routine inspections of commercial premises. Emergency lighting is needed in commercial buildings – and some domestic buildings – to ensure the safe evacuation of occupants in the event of an emergency. For this reason, all emergency lighting must be regularly checked, tested and maintained, while complying with fire safety and building regulations.
A flick test can and should be done routinely to make sure that the emergency lights are functioning. A flick test involves momentarily shutting off the main lighting to see if the emergency lights start up and work correctly.
Emergency lighting can be broken down into two sub-categories: emergency escape lighting and standby lighting.
Emergency escape lighting is used when leaving the property and/or attempting to resolve the situation. Only appropriately trained personnel should try to correct the issue. Escape route lighting should be followed to a safe meeting point in the event of a life-threatening emergency which requires immediate evacuation of the building.
Standby lighting is needed when power has been lost to the main lighting system but there is no risk to the people on the premises. This lighting is there to allow people within the building to continue as they usually would.
It is also important that your fire safety systems are checked regularly. They need to be able to work with the emergency lighting systems you have in place to ensure the safety of all people on the premises. Our engineers can check both systems at the same time to provide that valuable peace of mind to business owners, employees and customers.
Outdoor Security Lights
Businesses are a common target for thieves, but outdoor security lights can be a good way of deterring criminals from targeting your own company. At Mr. Electric, we can design a lighting solution that protects the security of your property, employees and customers alike. This could include floodlights, tree lights and car park lights, plus other features like motion sensors and intruder alarms that help to create a safe and secure commercial premise.
Damage from power surges is one of the leading causes of electrical equipment failure. For businesses, it is critical to be protected from surges that originate from both internal and external sources so they don’t hinder productivity or cause electrical hazards.
What causes power surges?
There are numerous causes of power surges, including lightning, problems with your utility company’s equipment, large appliances cycling power on and off, faulty wiring and fallen power lines.
What is at risk?
All items that have a microprocessor are at risk during a power surge. This includes items like computers, air conditioners, fax machines, scanners, printers, televisions, security systems, refrigerators, alarm systems, microwaves and telephones.
How can you protect your business against surges?
One of the best ways to protect your company against power surges is to invest in a surge protector. These relatively inexpensive devices limit the voltage supplied to an electrical appliance by shorting to ground or blocking any voltage that exceeds a safe threshold.
A surge protector will ensure your employees don’t lose valuable data, not to mention productivity, in the event of a power surge. It will also save you having to shell out potentially thousands of pounds on replacing expensive equipment that could be damaged beyond repair by a surge.

Communications with their office in arranging the work was very good. The work was carried out in a very professional manner. My property was left without any signs of work being carried out, apart from the Battery Car Charger that they fitted to my external wall. A great service.

Have used Mr. Electric before for installing spotlights and contacted them again to install my Nest doorbell and thermostat. Both times they have been fantastic and I have to say that Steven is an absolute star! He works very neatly and he treats your home as if its his own. Everything looks clean, tidy and very well done. Will be back for more!
Very great company and super happy with the prices quoted! Steven is an absolute star! He is very knowledgeable and has solutions for almost everything. His work is 10/10 and it's just as if he's doing work in his own home. Everything is left tidy, very well done and he is happy to make things happen for you! I have had a Nest doorbell and Nest thermostat installed by Steven from Mr Electric. Prior to the installation I've been in touch with 'Nest Pro's' as suggested by the Nest products and wasn't happy with their responses. So many of them are making the installation sound so difficult just so they can charge you a large amount. So I contacted Mr Electric and they have done the job at a much better price without any issues! The products are working perfectly and there's definitely no need for a ''Nest Pro'' to do it Can't fault this company and will definitely be back for more.
Sean identified major issues in my home after some very poor work by a different electrician left me without power and dangerous circuitry. He worked very hard to rectify extensive faults and was clearly very competent. I highly recommend this man.
Don't have anything bad to say about Steve, he was polite and clear about what to expect. Quality workmanship and even put up with my children bothering him. Would recommend.
